As I mentioned in my introductory post, I’ve been slowly making my 2020 RAV4 my own. In this post, I’m sharing my favorite mod so far—replacing the stock turn indicators with bright sequential LED turn indicators. They’re much brighter than the stock indicators and more noticeable, so they should provide a measure of increased safety as a result. They also give the vehicle a sleeker and more refined look when they’re off due to the dark smokey lens covers. (Recently, I further enhanced this effect by swapping out my body color-keyed side mirror caps with black side mirror caps.)
The mod is easy, taking 15 to 30 minutes depending on your comfort level. The most challenging part is prying the side mirror caps off, as it feels (and sounds!) like you will break something. I found a helpful YouTube video of the process made all the difference in my comfort level.
Everything else is straightforward–remove a couple screws, unplug the power connector from the stock turn indicator lighting unit and remove it, and insert the new sequential LED turn indicator unit, plugging power into it. Test the lights before screwing everything back in and putting the side mirror cap back on, and repeat for opposite mirror and you’re done!
